Labor Day marks the end of summer and American craft brewers are addressing things with a smart roster of serious beer you’re gonna want to have around as we look to fall.
Best Served Cold (Aurora, NY) – Labor Day signals the end of summer and fall’s impending arrival, and 42 North Brewing is celebrating this transition with the return of one its most popular seasonals. Inspired by the rich aromas of oatmeal raisin cookies, 42 North Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale is a 5.8% ABV cold-weather release that is brewed with molasses, cinnamon, vanilla, and raisins.
“While we hate to see summer come to a close,” 42 North founder John Cimperman said, “one bright spot is the launch of our Oatmeal Cookie Brown Ale. This beer is a perfect complement to the cool nights in the fall.”
Cool Down (Chico, CA / Mills River NC) – Sierra Nevada Brewing recently released the latest addition to its uber-crafty “Limited Hazy Series” and its out there now but won’t be much longer, and it is worth chasing down.
Brewed with cryogenically frozen fresh Mosaic hops that provide a distinct rush of fresh hop notes, as well as with flavorful Cryo Crystal, Comet, and El Dorado hops, Sierra Nevada Cool Little Thing is a 7.5% ABV Cryo Fresh Hazy IPA with rich tropical flavors and aromas like juicy fruit and bittersweet citrus, and a touch of earthiness that is well-balanced with a clean hoppy bitterness.
“What I love most about Cool Little Thing is the intense tropical aromas and the nuanced complexity of hop flavors that come from cryogenically frozen fresh hops,” said Brian Grossman, Chief Brewer and second-generation brewery owner at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. “There’s something extra special about soaking in the sunshine while enjoying a cold, fresh-hop style beer.”
Witch Way (Ipswich, MA) – True North Ale Company is looking to fall with the return of something uber-special. Bursting with Citra, Vic Secret, and Strata hops True North Season of the Witch is a 5.9% ABV Hazy IPA with big passion fruit, mango, pineapple, and melon notes, a soft mouthfeel and full body.
“We brewed Season of the Witch exclusively for our fans in Salem, Massachusetts in 2019. Each succeeding year, its popularity exploded, said Jake Rogers, Founder & Chief of Brewery Operations at True North Ales. “Fall seasonals are typically thought of as just pumpkin and spice beers, but this one stands apart from the pack. It has shown to be very appealing to beer drinkers across the board.”
The artwork on the Season of the Witch can label was created by noted Marblehead artist Amy Hourihan.
