Winter beers and robust dark ales dominate our latest collection of holiday season beers…And we’ve five cold weather craft beer directions that you might want to chase down as we look the holidays.

A Holiday Rarity (Austin, TX) – While you’re out this week leading into New Year’s you might want to stop into your favorite Belgian beer bar for the draft-only release of a brew widely regarded as one of the world’s top Christmas Ales from Brasserie St-Feuillien.  Available now and all through the winter months of 2018, Cuvée de Noël is a 9% ABV rarity that seldom makes its way to the states.

Cannon Fodder (Baltimore, MD) – Heavy Seas Beer has a new addition to their Cannon Crew Series scheduled for January. Double dry-hopped with Centennial hops and Simcoe lupulin hop powder, Heavy Seas AmeriCannon is an intensely flavorful 5.75% ABV Pale Ale that’s crazy delicious…but won’t make you crazy.

We Want Candy! (Cooperstown, NY) – Brewery Ommegang has just released the latest addition release in the brewery’s ongoing mission to meld the artistry of Belgian brewing techniques with typically non-Belgian beer styles. From its deep, dark black pour to its creamy tan head, Ommegang Candi Stout is a 6.7% ABV winter ale that uses of Belgian yeast and the extra dose of candi syrup to sweeten the beer’s complexity.

The Darkest Beer For The Darkest Day (Berthoud, CO) – City Star Brewing recently released an enormous tribute to the Winter Solstice that’s the only non-barrel-aged beer that they’ve ever bottled. Big, bold and unrepentant City Star Widow Maker is a rich 10.5% ABV Imperial Oatmeal Stout that’s already taken a bronze medal at 2015’s Colorado State Fair.

Baltic Bound (Juneau, AK) –Alaskan Brewing’s latest Pilot Series release is a cold-weather classic! Pitch black and substantial Alaskan Baltic Porter is a massive 9.8% an exercise in opulence that’s brewed cherries, brown sugar, vanilla beans and oak chips.

Hazel Nuts (Newport, OR) – Rogue Ales has just released something interesting that takes the classic European Brown Ale in an intriguing new direction. Available on January 1st in 22oz, bombers, 12oz bottles, in cans as well as on draft, Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar is a 5.6% ABV Brown Ale with a rich nutty flavor and a smooth malty finish.
