Hey, no one’s perfect…as we at American Craft Beer understand better than most. That said, there are some ideas out there that are so monumentally misguided as to boggle the mind. So welcome to another BAD IDEAS IN BREWING…and Texas we’re looking at you!
There are certain things in life that were never meant to intermingle…that should never even be mentioned in the same breath…And beer with Oreo cookies was definitely one of them…until now!
VinePair recently reported on a Texas State fair food vendor, Barrera, was serving Oreo beer shakes made up of an American milk stout with an Oreo cookie floating on top.
And if that wasn’t concerning enough, the beer shake’s cup is rimmed with Oreo cream filling and chocolate Oreo bits…so there’s that.
It’s not like we don’t enjoy Oreo cookies. Who doesn’t like them? They totally beat out vegetables.
And we’re as interested in beer experimentation as anyone. But there’s a difference between brewing creatively and acting with unhinged malice.
NEVER in our wildest dreams would we EVER consider mixing cookies (and especially Oreos) into a beer…we’re just not that damaged.
And not even at events like the State Fair of Texas, which has built their considerable reputation on serving up foods like Cajun Fried Devil Eggs and Chicken Fried Spam Fries, can we condone this kind of beer atrocity.
It’s long been ACB’s position that beer and cookies are polar opposites…that they should never be allowed to be co-joined. Like dogs and cats sleeping together; the Capulets and the Montagues, they’re anathema to each other in almost every way.
Beer is the anti-cookie, it’s meant to be brewed, never baked…
And if an Oreo beer was truly a good idea, Nabisco would have gotten into the brewing industry long ago….just sayin.’
Know this…Once you’ve unlocked the door to concoctions as borderline as Oreo Beer Shakes you’ve opened the doors to chaos…You’ve invited anarchy into your bed.
WHAT’S NEXT PICKLE BEER SHAKES?
No one needs that…not in 2017.
