AB InBev’s Grupo Modelo To Build World’s 2nd Largest Brewery In Mexico

Located in the state of Hidalgo, the new brewery once completed, will afford Grupo Modelo a mind-blowing capacity of around 320 million gallons of beer a year, which according to WSJ translates into an incredible nine million bottle of a day!

The planned  brewery’s location (northwest of the coastal city of Veracruz) is advantageous to Grupo Modelo in a number of ways, not the least being the region’s availability of water and energy, its proximity to major roads and railway, and the fact that Hidalgo is considered to be one of Mexico’s safest state.

And the fact that Hidalgo is Mexico’s second-biggest producer of the malt barley so critical to the brewing beer, couldn’t help but close the deal.

Grupo Modelo’s $755 million investment will become their eighth and largest brewery in Mexico and serve as an international hub that will service both North and South America.

Planned to open in March of 2019, the new facility will reportedly “employ 1,200 people and is designed to be able to double capacity in the future.”
