So welcome to another edition of Newbies -Your ultimate guide to great new craft beers!
Rain Check Please (Mills River, NC) – Sierra Nevada has a new release coming out soon that marks the official start of brewing at their new East Coast facility. Sierra Nevada Rain Check Spiced Stout is the brewery’s answer to the merciless wet weather that plagued and slowed construction of their new site. It’s an American Stout inspired by the tropical flavors often found in other favorite, foul-weather drinks–fresh ginger, brown sugar, molasses, and tangy lime. This special “first-time” release will be out this month in western North Carolina and several surrounding states – so be ready.
Peace Tree Gets a New Sidekick (Knoxville, IA) – Iowa-based Peace Tree Brewing has a new sidekick that you might want to chase down. Sidekick Kölsch is a cold-fermented ale. Lightly hopped and brewed in the tradition of Cologne, Germany, this crisp Kölsch-style ale is the perfect summertime companion and it’s out there now – so you know what to do.
Prolonged Pleasure Offered! (Bellaire, MI) – Short’s Brewing Company has entered the Session IPA parade and is offering what amounts to prolonged pleasure to do it. Short’s Prolonged Enjoyment is their newest, year-round offering, a 3.8% ABV India Pale Ale that will be available in twelve packs beginning the second week of June.
Fort Collin’s Breweries Unite (Fort Collins, CO) – New Belgium and Odell have brewed up a collaboration ale born out of mutual respect and appreciation. FOCOllaboration is a 6.7% ABV American Pale that pours deep copper. Caramel-kissed Fawcett Crystal Malt (an Odell favorite) delivers sweet, malty tones while Centennial, Cascade, and Citra hops (New Belgium staples) offer herbal, fruity, and piney notes. Part of New Belgium’s Hop Kitchen Series, this mashup for the ages is available now and we’re pretty psyched about that.
Happy Birthday! (Bend, OR) – The Deschutes Brewery will be celebrating their 26th year in business this month and they’re releasing something special to commemorate it. Black Butte XXVI is an 11% ABV double Porter brewed with cranberries, pomegranate, molasses, and cocoa nibs all added to a 50% bourbon barrel-aged blend of awesomeness. Like all of their Reserve Series beers, they suggest that you drink one upon its July 27 release and stash one away for later.
