August is waning and brewers are celebrating summer’s end and fall’s soon-to-come arrival with an interesting roster of beers that suit the changing seasons.
A ”Not Quite Beer” Beer (Minneapolis, MN) – Indeed Brewing is pushing the envelope again with something new that isn’t *quite* a beer. But it’s not not a beer either.
Technically a beer, but crafted to blur the lines, Indeed Apple Crisp Ale is a 6.7% ABV a one-of-a-kind hybrid of beer and cider. It starts with Pilsner and Munich malt combined with real apple juice. Then it’s then fermented with a specialized cider yeast. The result? A beer with a refreshing character that transports you to the best day at the orchard. A light touch of cinnamon and nutmeg elevates the experience.
“I think craft beer is coolest when it pushes the boundaries far enough that you find your way back to something that’s approachable and accessible,” said Ryan Bandy, Indeed’s Chief Business Officer, and that’s what we’ve done with Apple Crisp. The combination of tons of apple, cider yeast, and the process of making a lager made something we think is unique, special, and perfect for the next season.”

Time Two Get Seasonal (Roseland, VA) – Named after the hard-to-summit Virginia mountain range, Devils Backbone Brewing Company is a craft brewery and distillery in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains that has been crafting great beers since 2008. And they’ve two new seasonals that we’ll want to have on hand as the leaves begin to change.
Crafted with a smart mix of Northern Brewer and Saaz hops, Devils Backbone Pumpkin Spice Lager is a 5.2% ABV Amber Lager with pumpkin pie spice extract that puts a decadent seasonal spin on things.
Brewed with a deft combination of Light Munich, Special Aromatic, Cara-Hell, Vienna, 2-Row malts and an abundance Hallertau Tradition and Tettnang hops, Devils Backbone O’Fest Lager is a smooth yet robust 5.9% ABV definitive take on the modern German Oktoberfest beer.
Born In Northern California (Sausalito, CA) – With more craft breweries than ever before, brewing serious non-alcoholic beer, ACB has expanded our coverage to include new NA beers that matter. And Best Day Brewing has a West Coast IPA that absolutely nails the style.
Brimming with classic Cascade hops that add a subtle bite to the beer’s finish, Best Day Brewing’s buzz-free West Coast IPA could not be more convincing. And we promise you you’ll never find a more flavorful non-alcoholic IPA with only 68 calories.
