Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival in the world kicked off over the weekend in Munich, Germany. And although it remains “The Mother of all Beer Festivals,” its spirit has spread well beyond Bavaria.
From North America to South America, Asia, and Australia, Oktoberfest celebrations now offer a global stage for German traditional foods, music and, of course, a whole lot of beer!
And here are five of the Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich with their own considerable reputations.
Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest (Sept 25 to Oct 11)
Kitchener-Waterloo, located in Ontario, Canada is home to the largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Germany.

This nine-day festival attracts over 700,000 visitors every year and offers a wide range of activities including traditional Bavarian dancing, beer tents, parades, and the crowning of Miss Oktoberfest.
The region has a strong German heritage, and it shows in the authenticity of the festivities, from the delicious schnitzel to the lively polka music.
- Highlight: The Thanksgiving Day Parade, broadcast nationwide, is a major event during the festival.
Cincinnati Oktoberfest Zinzinnati (Sept 19 – 21)
Cincinnati’s Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is the largest Oktoberfest in the United States, drawing half a million visitors annually.
Held over a weekend in mid-September, this festival is famous for its quirky traditions and massive crowds. Visitors enjoy German-style beers, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and soft pretzels while participating in ridiculously fun events like the “Running of the Wieners” dachshund race.
- Highlight: Cincinnati holds the record for the world’s largest chicken dance (!), with thousands of people joining in the fun.
Blumenau Oktoberfest (Oct 9 – 27)
Oktoberfest Blumenau is the largest German festival in South America, held in the city of Blumenau, Brazil.

This 18-day celebration was inspired by the Munich original, and it has become a cultural phenomenon in the region. Visitors are treated to an authentic German atmosphere with beer halls, Bavarian music, and traditional German cuisine, alongside Brazilian influences like samba music and local brews.
- Highlight: The festive parade, featuring colorful floats, traditional costumes, and music, brings the streets of Blumenau to life.
Hong Kong Oktoberfest (China)
Oktoberfest Hong Kong brings a taste of Bavaria to Asia, combining German tradition with modern, urban flair.
Held at various venues across the city, including beer gardens and rooftop bars, this celebration attracts locals and expats alike. The festival features German bands, hearty Bavarian food, and of course, plenty of German beers. It’s a unique way to experience Oktoberfest in the bustling heart of Asia.
- Highlight: Hong Kong is breathtaking and the panoramic city views from some venues offer a stunning backdrop for the festivities.
Oktoberfest Brisbane (Oct 4 -6 & Oct 11-13)
Australia’s largest Oktoberfest celebration takes place in Brisbane, Queensland, and offers a highly authentic experience thanks to its strong German community.
Held over two weekends, Oktoberfest Brisbane includes traditional music, food, and dance, as well as yodeling contests and beer hall sing-alongs. It’s family-friendly too, with special activities for children, such as carnival rides and cultural displays.
- Highlight: The Bavarian Strongman competition is a not-to-miss event, showcasing feats of strength in classic Bavarian meets Australian style.
