2024 is ON and American craft brewers are addressing the winter with an intriguing roster of stouts that get the job done.

Shaken Not Stirred (Waitsfield, VT) – Lawson’s Finest Liquids just introduced a seasonal stout that fans of Guinness like us, are going to want to chase down, that began as a popular draft-only offering and is finally available in 16oz cans. Unbelievably creamy, yet uber-approachable Lawson’s Finest Nitro Stout is a 5.4% ABV Irish-style Dry Stout that’s been a taproom fav for years.

To package Nitro Stout, Lawson’s Finest doses the beer with liquid nitrogen directly into the can versus using a widget. Because it’s less soluble in liquid than typical CO2, nitro doesn’t dissolve in the same way, but incorporates into the beer for an extremely creamy mouthfeel and a mesmerizing cascade of tiny bubbles when poured.

Darkness Done Right (Brooklyn, NY) – Brooklyn Brewery has returned something special that again unites the craft beer pioneer with an esteemed bourbon icon, Kentucky-based Four Roses Distillery, a collaboration that began in 2019 and continues to flourish, thanks to the camaraderie between Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster, Garrett Oliver, and Four Roses COO Ryan Ashley.

Aged for 9 months in Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon casks specially-chosen by Four Roses Master Distiller Brent Elliott, Brooklyn Black Ops is a 12% ABV Imperial Stout with a decadent cocoa nib and milk chocolate profile that is tempered by a vanilla-forward oak presence.

“Black Ops is a modern classic with its own personality,” Brooklyn Brewery’s James Beard Award-winning Brewmaster, Garrett Oliver said, “brisk, light on its feet, and complex without being heavy. The Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon barrels take this beer where no other barrels could carry it, and I’m very proud of working with Brent and Four Roses’ brilliant team.”

100% Guinness, Just Without The Alcohol (Dublin) – Boasting the same smooth taste, balanced flavor and creamy mouthfeel, Guinness 0 is one of the best non-alcoholic beers that we’ve ever had.

To create this winning alternative the St James’s Gate brewers start by brewing Guinness exactly as they always have, using the same natural ingredients; water, barley, hops, and yeast; before gently removing the alcohol through a cold filtration method. The cold filtration process allows the alcohol to be filtered out without presenting thermal stress to the beer, protecting the integrity of its taste and character.

The brewers then carefully blend and balance the flavors to ensure its distinctive dark ruby color and creamy rich head. Like we’ve said it’s 100% Guinness, just without the alcohol.
