Untappd is a popular geosocial networking service and mobile phone app that allows its users to rate the beers they’re drinking, and share those check-ins and their locations with their friends.
And in December Untappd named the platform’s most popular lagers.
Lagers are beers which originated in Northern Europe regions now known as Germany and Austria that are brewed at lower temperatures than ales.

The term “lager” comes from the German word for “storage”, because back in the day when there was no refrigeration, the beer was both fermented and stored in caves prior to drinking.
Unlike ales which use top fermenting yeast at warmer temperatures, most lagers are distinguished by the use of Saccharomyces pastorianus, a “bottom-fermenting” yeast that ferments at relatively colder temperatures.
The most common lager beers in worldwide production are pale lagers. But under that broad heading there’s many popular styles, the most widely known is the Pilsner the single largest produced style in the world.
