Whatever you think of Samuel Adam’s newest pumpkin ale, exposure on Saturday Night Live doesn’t suck…And the brewery was good-natured about it.
Here’s the deal…
Over the weekend, comedian Bill Burr hosted Saturday Night Live and he ended the evening with a parody commercial that has as much fun with Samuel Adams Jack-O Pumpkin Ale as it does with ‘Real Bostonians.”
In the SNL parody commercial Burr and other Boston locals sample the Samuel Adams pumpkin ale, which got recipe change-up this year, while shopping in a grocery store.
The mock commercial is tone perfect as customers happily appraise the beer with comments like “this is the perfect beer for sweater weather,” and “you guys should sell this year-round,”
Then Bill Burr’s blue-collar ‘Real Bostonian’ weighs in…
After taking his first sip, Burr spits out the beer, shouting, “What the f*** is that?
But even though Burr appears to be disgusted that doesn’t stop him from power-chugging beer after beer with comments like…
“This is the kind of beer somebody brings to a house party but no one drinks, so it ends up sitting in the fridge for months….Then one day your buddy comes over and he’s like ‘Hey, you got a beer? And I’m like, ‘Well, you know, I’ve got this pumpkin s***.’”
Samuel Adams parent company, Boston Beer was tremendously magnanimous about the SNL parody (hey, funny is funny) responding via Twitter on Monday …
The Jack-O reviews are in,” Boston Beer wrote. “‘You know, it’s kind of sweet and sh!t but…’”
And the company can’t help but be gracious responding to SNL’s skit. As of publishing, the video on SNL’s YouTube page has already generated over 2.6 million views… Publicity you can’t buy.
