Extreme Pumpkin Beers

, Extreme Pumpkin Beers

Pumpkin beers can be polarizing…people tend to either love them or hate them. But some Pumpkin Beers are so audaciously crafted that they can’t be ignored.

And here are four pumpkin beers that are unafraid of taking things to an extreme…

, Extreme Pumpkin BeersAvery Rumpkin

A core fall seasonal offering at Boulder, Colorado’s Avery Brewing since 2011, this pumpkin beer is as aggressive as it is elegant but it’s not for the faint of heart.

Part of the brewery’s annual Barrel Series, 2020’s  Avery Rumpkin  is a HUGE 16.3% ABV rum barrel-aged Pumpkin Ale, with rich rum, vanilla and rich molasses tones.

This is the pumpkin ale for rum lovers who enjoy taking thing to an extreme.

New Belgium Voodoo Atomic Pumpkin

New Belgium’s Voodoo Ranger Series has produced some of the brewery’s most exciting releases and its annual fall offering rethinks the whole ‘pumpkin beer’ thing entirely.

And while not as high-octane as most Extreme Pumpkin Beers, it’s choice of concentrated hot pepper spicing keeps things intense.

Brewed with fresh pumpkin juice, Saigon cinnamon, Habanero, Aji and Del Arbol peppers, Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin is a medium-bodied 6.4% ale that pours bright autumnal orange with a light white lacing, and a spicy, warming mouthfeel

, Extreme Pumpkin BeersCigar City Good Gourd

It’s interesting that this extreme fall seasonal, which is so often cited as the pumpkin beer against which all others are measured, comes from Cigar City, a brewery in a state not normally associated with fall.

But this Tampa, Florida brewery does has a reputation for producing extreme beers like their annual Hunahpu’s release….a MASSIVE 11.8% Imperial Stout with Cinnamon, Vanilla, Cacao Nibs and Chile Peppers

And their fall pumpkin beer is pretty extreme as well…

Cigar City Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale is a massive 8.5% ABV seasonal that combines cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, and vanilla to emulate the flavors of a decadent, piquant pumpkin pie and then ups the ante to eleven!

Southern Tier Warlock Imperial Stout

Lakewood, NY-headquartered Southern Tier Brewing doesn’t produce pumpkin beers that aren’t extreme. Their Pumpking Imperial Ale was one of craft beer’s first Extreme Pumpkin Beers, but they’ve a deeper, darker variation that furthers the concept..

Brewed with fresh pumpkin, and a reckless abundance of seasonal spices and pitch black roasted malt, Southern Tier Warlock Imperial Stout is an 8.6% ABV monster that will have you yielding to your dark side.
