The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 11, 2015

Hey the work week is over… And it’s time to start thinking fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals, movies and music to cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time.  Plus we’ve a special weekend beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking!

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks…

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 11, 2015Snallygaster 2015 (Washington, DC) – One of the perks of doing what we do at ACB is that we get invited to attend a lot of great craft beer festivals – and Snallygaster which is taking place this Saturday (Sept 12th) in the Nation’s Capital, is absolutely one of the best! If you’ve never attended this amazing event – you need to – and here’s why. Unlike so many craft beer festivals that offer a roster of familiar standards along with the occasional rarity, Snallygaster does just the opposite. All the beers being served this weekend have been carefully curated by craft beer wunderkind Greg Engert, the Beer Director and Managing Partner for the Neighborhood Restaurant Group. This year, Greg’s assembled a beasty 300+ beers from all around the world – and they’re the kinds of offerings that you only see at the most acclaimed craft beer outings like the Firestone Walker Invitational.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 11, 2015On The Big Screen – This week’s new movie openings are even worse than last weeks were. Which can only mean that we are officially entering early fall – a historically bad time for movie attendance and a time when Hollywood conveniently drops all their dogs. Not that M. Night Shyamalan’s low-budget thriller The Visit will be a total bomb – some critics are reporting that it’s actually campy fun. But given this once beloved director’s declining track record, since he first burst on to the scene with The Sixth Sense, who knows?

Seafood & Suds at the Shipyard (Boston, MA) – Think Blue Point beer and the world famous oysters by the same name, and join two of Boston’s best young chefs — Sam Jackson of KO Catering & Pies and special guest Michael Serpa of SELECT Oyster Bar — for an evening of beer and seafood that could get wild. For more info on this celebration of Blue Point and “blue points” check out: Toasted Tour at the Shipyard

TV Time – Can a television drama be sick and damaged yet utterly compelling at the same time? We think Showtime’s Ray Donovan is both. Set in the sprawling mecca of the rich and famous, Ray Donovan is a “fixer” who does the dirty work for LA’s top power players. The one-hour series stars Liev Schreiber as the go-to guy who makes the problems of the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls disappear.  This series (now in its third season) is the ultimate guilty pleasure- which is probably why we can’t stop watching it.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 11, 2015Oktoberfest Season Begins
(Portland, OR) – And a good place to begin things is at Portland’s largest and longest-running Oktoberfest celebration! This Saturday, September 12th, Widmer Brothers will be throwing their 11th annual Oktoberfest celebration – and its once again taking place on their historic North Portland property. This is a good one, so think about going and if you need more info you can go here.

OUR WEEKEND BEER PICK

With summer now waning and fall soon to come, we’re changing things up at the ACB compound and Victory has a Witbier that suits us perfectly this time of year. Victory’s Whirlwind Witbier is 5.1% ABV Belgian White that’s a sessionable take on a classic.
