The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 29, 2013

|March 29th, 2013|

Hey, it’s Friday and if you’re like us, you are ecstatic about this weekend. Lots of events, some new films, and more of that little basketball tournament. If you have had a long week of work, and just need to kick back, then by all means, check out our Weekend Picks!

If you are going to be in the South Carolina area this weekend, saunter over to Myrtle Beach for Myrtle Beach Beer Fest! They say there will be over 100 beers, live entertainment and a lot of vendors. We think you should go and test them on that! Go hang out, have some brews, enjoy some bands, and hang out on the Atlantic Ocean. Sounds like a pretty damn good time to us.

Also this weekend, but across the country in Portland, OR, Spring Beer and Wine Fest hits the streets of the Rose City. Boasting over 80 beers and free admission Saturday to anyone participating in the Hoppity Hops fun run, it sounds like the ticket to get in the PNW.

Whose idea was this? Now that the snow has melted (and should stay that way), Chicago, IL will play host to the Chicago Beer Festival on Saturday. With some big names in brewing dropping off some wares – like Oskar Blues Brewery and Left Hand Brewing Company – you are sure to have a grand old time in the Windy City. But, really, when was the last time you went to Chicago and didn’t have a good time? This is just the icing on the cake that is Chi-Town.

Tickets to the NYC American Craft Beer Festival are selling out quickly, so if you want to stop by and hang out with some awesome people, you better hurry up and get your passes. You get a tasting glass and can get unlimited pours from over 150 beers. VIPs get in an hour early. Hmmm…we may just have to find a way out there…

The first GI Joe film was terrible. We can all admit it now: it wasn’t even Netflix worthy. So, what did they do? Brought in The Rock, more ninja fights, and threw in a Bruce Willis for good measure. This weekend, they will try again with G.I. Joe: Retaliation, a film we hope is good, but we won’t hold our breath, since it is getting worse reviews than the newest Stephanie Meyer “film”.

400 lb monkey bottle glass 216134499Our Weekend Beer Pick

This talk about Left Hand Brewing Company got us thinking about this Longmont, Co brewers stable of hoppy goodness. Specifically the 400 lb Monkey. An easy drinking English Style IPA that never fails at being successful. This monkey will climb into bed with you, pretend to be all cuddly, and then draw on your face after you sleep. Great flavor, and a surprising post drink buzz, this is the perfect beer to climb into a hammock and watch the sun disappear over the spring horizon.
