Craft Beer Week Begins In The Big Apple (NYC) – As we reported this week,  New York City Beer Week kicks off its 10-day celebration (Feb 19^th-28^th) this weekend. Some 400+ events will be presented throughout the week and there’s going to be so many awesome things to do. Not to be missed is the NYCBW Opening Bash Beer Cruises this Saturday – and the Fried Chicken and Donuts Brunch on Sunday sounds fairly essential as well. On The Big Screen – Another Marvel superhero flick has made its way to the big screen and this one sounds like a real departure from what we’ve come to expect. Humorous, bloody and unapologetically twisted, Deadpool is an R-rated riff that stays true to this uncompromising comic book’s spirit. In a superhero role that finally fits him, Ryan Reynolds stars as the irreverent title character, a former Special Forces operative, subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers and a bad attitude.

An Ohio Beergasm (Columbus, OH) – Sam Adams is sponsoring the sixth annual Columbus Winter Beerfest down at the Convention Center this weekend and it sounds like it could be too much fun. This two-evening throwdown (Feb 19^th-20^th) will feature more than 350 beers from over 100 amazing breweries beer-centric artisan foods and live music. What’s not to like? TV Time – Showtime recently introduced an interesting new drama that pits a charismatic and questionable hedge fund king, up against an ambitious prosecutor committed to taking him down. Billions stars Damian Lewis as Bobby Axelrod, a self-made billionaire suspected of insider trading – and Paul Giamatti as his nemesis, US Attorney Chuck Rhoades – as they face off in a high-stakes game of predator vs. prey, in the ruthless world of high finance. Billions is a good show that has all the ingredients to eventually become a great show – and were rooting for it.

Our Weekend Beer Pick

Innis & Gunn is a Scottish brewer known for maturing their beers with oak – and they took things to an interesting new level with a recent release. Innis & Gunn Irish Whiskey Stout is a 7.4% ABV Scottish-style Stout that’s matured with whiskey infused oak in something they call “Oakerators,” (think coffee percolator). It’s clearly brewed with St. Patrick’s Day in mind – but why wait?
