Hey it’s Friday and if you’re like us, you’re ready to change gears. We get it. You’ve been killing yourself at work all week and you’re in desperate need of fun. That’s where we come in! We’re all about the fun and we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve got a special weekend beer pick for you too…So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!
One of craft beer’s most popular festivals is taking place in Grand Rapids this weekend and even though it sold out almost immediately, we’ve got to mention it. On Saturday, the Michigan Brewers Guild will be presenting their sixth annual Winter Beer Festival and it is legendary! If you’re one of those lucky enough to have secured a ticket -good for you! You’re holding this weekend’s hottest craft beer ticket to what may be one of the industry’s coldest festivals. This outdoor event will take place “snow, rain, or shine” so dress like you came to drink tundra-style! This year’s fest will feature more than 300 beers from over 50 Michigan breweries and the emphasis will be on big and barrel-aged beers, which seems perfect for this weekend’s Arctic hang! Although our Weekend Movie Pick might strike some of you as marginal at best, that doesn’t mean it can’t still be fun. Snitch stars America’s favorite righteous vigilante, Dwayne Johnson, as a father forced to go undercover for the DEA in order to free his son who was imprisoned after being set up in a drug deal. Best ignore the fact that Snitch kicked around for years before seeing the light of day and that this movie that is supposedly “based on actual events” may strain credibility. We suggest, on the other hand, that the best way to enjoy Snitch is with a bucket of fresh popcorn and with one’s tongue firmly planted in cheek!
The Rock Boat is a music festival and a cruise that’s leaving out of Miami this weekend for five days of music, sun, and fun with some great musicians scheduled to perform. The Rock Boat is hosted by Sister Hazel and they’ll be joined by bands like Carbon Leaf and Green River Ordinance. This voyage promises to be a jam-fest and we can’t think of a better way to lose winter for awhile! Last time we checked, there were still bookings available – so if you’re interested in a musical getaway this weekend, check out: The Rock Boat 2013
Hey, Austin’s got something cool going on this weekend and if you’re down that way, you don’t want to miss it. The 2013 Austin Specialty Beer Festival will be taking place this Saturday, February 23, downtown at Fiesta Gardens. This outdoor, all-day event will feature more than 80 beers, including rare special releases from some of the region’s best brewers. There will be live music, food, and all kinds of activities, but most importantly, THERE WILL BE SERIOUS BEER! VIP tickets allowing for early admission are available. For more info on what promises to be “too much fun,” check out: Austin Specialty Beer Festival
Our Weekend Beer Pick: Black Raven Brewing Company will be holding an open house this weekend and it’s as good a reason as any for a road trip to Redmond, Washington. They will be celebrating on Saturday by re-releasing their much-vaunted 2011 Black Raven Old Birdbrain. This award-winning barley wine will be available on tap and for sale to-go in 12 ounce bottles.
