The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – November 18, 2013

Harvest Time This Weekend (New York, New York) – Unless you’ve been living in a bunker somewhere, you probably know that The Hand Crafted Tasting Company will be bringing legendary NYC Craft Beer Festival – Winter Harvest to the Lexington Avenue Armory in Manhattan, this Saturday, November 23rd and will feature two Saturday sessions, and a special afternoon session on Sunday. This year’s festival will showcase more than 150 winter seasonals and favorites from 75 of America’s best craft breweries. There will also be two craft beer seminars that sound fun. Jonathan Pogash, aka “The Cocktail Guru,” will lead an exploration on beer cocktails and Jared Rouben, from Chicago’s Moody Tongue Brewery will be on hand to share his thoughts on “culinary brewing.”
Best Beer Name of The Week Awarded! (Bellaire, MI) – This week’s American Craft Beer Name of the Week goes to Short’s Brewing Company for their unashamedly named Bludgeon Yer Eye India Black Ale. This is the first win for the Michigan-based brewery so we’ve got to think that they’re totally psyched!
New Digs Next Year for the BA (Boulder, CO) – The Brewers Association will be relocating its headquarters to a larger office in 2014. The BA has been at its current location for nearly three decades and the new office is almost double the size. The transaction has an expected close date of April 1 and a purchase price of $4 million.
Another Timely Departure (Kent, WA) – One of our favorite beers from our friends at Airways returns this week and it warrants a heads up. 2013’s Airways Final Departure Imperial Stout will make its second appearance this Tuesday, the 19th. And if it’s as good as it was last year, it’s worthy of lining up for. Last year’s release won a silver medal at the Washington Beer Awards.

The Commons Goes Statewide (Portland, OR) – Our friend Michael Wright, who founded The Commons Brewery, has some good news. Beginning in January 2014, they will be partnering with Morgan Distributing to have their very fine beer distributed throughout Oregon. The brewery recently doubled its production capacity by adding two 30 barrel fermentors (bringing its annual capacity to 1,500 barrels), so this new partnership makes a whole lot of sense.
