Few regions of the US have a brewing legacy as vibrant as Colorado. And on January 2 the Colorado Brewers Guild showcased the state’s best breweries and at the Colorado Brewers Cup.
The was born directly from the request of Colorado brewers who wanted a competition that truly represents the Centennial State. While Colorado’s breweries often find success on national and international stages, this new tradition offers an inclusive space for all Guild members—whether they are small-batch operations or well-known regional staples—to showcase their work among peers.
The Colorado Brewers Cup winners were selected by a panel of 59 beer judges from seven states evaluating 772 entries from 120 breweries. The Guild awarded 87 medals that were spread amongst 30 different cities in Colorado. Denver collected 16 medals, followed by Aurora, Fort Collins, and Golden with 7 each, and Colorado Springs with 6.
The awards ceremony was held on the final day of the Colorado Craft Brewers Summit at the Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center in Aurora, Colorado. Brewer participation in this event only includes Colorado Brewers Guild members.
WeldWerks Brewing and Glenwood Canyon Brewing were named brewery of the year for their respective sizes. River North Brewery and Verboten Brewing also made their mark, taking home five medals each.

“The level of technical skill and creativity displayed in this year’s entries was world-class,” CBG Executive Director Shawnee Adelson said. “This competition shows that no matter the size of the brewery, Colorado’s independent brewers are consistently pushing the boundaries of quality.”
“This competition is a testament to the incredible talent and collaborative spirit that makes Colorado the best state for craft beer,” CBG Communications Manager Carrie Wilson added. “Seeing so many breweries come together to celebrate each other’s success is exactly why we started the Brewers Cup.”
