Spring is ON, and summer not far away, and American craft brewers are addressing the changing seasons with ambitious new offerings you might want to chase down…
A Taste Of New Zealand (Venice, CA) – Firestone Walker’s experimental small-batch brewing facility in SoCal, The Propagator, has a juicy new offering that Brewing Manager Sam Tierney calls their “haziest limited-release IPA yet.”
Brewed with New Zealand-grown Nelson Sauvin and Riwaka hops, along with a healthy amount of malted oats from Proximity Malt, Firestone Propagator Series Elenna Hazy IPA is a 7.3% ABV India Pale Ale with an exceptionally silky texture and brooding haze.
In contrast with Mind Haze and almost all the hazy IPAs that have been brewed at The Propagator, Elenna does not contain any wheat. Instead of wheat, the brewery used malted oats and increased the typical oat portion from about 10% to 30%.
The label art for Elenna, which was designed El Gran Tocayo who recently did the small-batch Wookey Jack label, is set in a mystical world inspired by the New Zealand countryside where the hops in this IPA originate.

Two Pils That Chill (Waitsfield, Vermont) – To celebrate the warmer weather Lawson’s Finest Liquids has released not one, but two versions of its signature Pilsner, Scrag Mountain Pils. This 4.8% ABV lager is named in tribute to the brewery’s pristine water-source, an aquifer deep beneath Scrag Mountain. And in addition to the original recipe, Lawson’s is also releasing Scrag Mountain Pils Salt & Lime, a well-balanced dance of crisp and tart.
“We always look forward to bringing back Scrag Mountain Pils because that means summer is right around the corner,” said Sean Lawson, founder and CEO of Lawson’s Finest Liquids. “This year, for the first time, we’ll be distributing our salt and lime twist on a classic outside of Vermont.”
