Free Agent Baseball Star Spends $47K on Beer for Cubs Fans

Those of you who don’t follow Major League Baseball in the US, may not who Jon Lester is. He’s a veteran pitcher (now a free agent) who has had a historic run with the Chicago Cubs, including winning the 2016 World Series.

And to thank his many fans for six years of support, Lester took to Twitter over the weekend to announce that he would be buying his fans a beer when they drop by one of four Chicago bars.

“Fans got the message and decided to take Lester up on his offer for some free adult beverages, according to CBS Sports. “Throughout the weekend, Cubs fans consumed $31,082.63 worth of Miller Lite to bring Lester’s tab to a grand total of $47,094.90. The veteran pitcher left a 34 percent tip, which corresponds to the No. 34 that he wore with the Cubs.”

With COVID-19 still putting the damper on drinking out, Heineken, which distributes the Dos Equis Mexican beer brand in the US, is bringing the draft beer experience home to consumers in new 5 liter mini-kegs.

A Dos Equis consumer spends on average 4-6 times more on a draft beer versus cans or bottles when drinking out. And that’s the beer fans that Heineken hopes to serve with its new home draft beer format.

Making its first debut this November, with a national rollout planned for later in 2021, Heineken’s innovative home draft beer option may be right on time with the coronavirus still lurking around.
