Rumor Mill: Canadian Cannabis Beer A Game-Changer, Heavy Seas Beer Avoids UK Trademark Dispute

|May 22nd, 2019|

Province Brands Brews Game-Changing Beer (Cambridge Bay, Canada) – Drinks brewed with cannabis are expected to become legal in Canada later this year. And when they do Province Brands will have a game-changing beer ready to go to market

A Brave New World – What make Province Brand’s cannabis beer line different from most products now in development is that they substitute cannabis for barley as part of the brewing process rather than infusing the beer with psychoactive THC liquids to create a similar effect. And yes these beers comes with buzz…but it’s a pot buzz rather than an alcohol head.

Province Brands new brews combines the flavors of hops and beer melded, not surprisingly, with a sturdy cannabis character and head. And without barley or grains being used in the brewing process there’s less residual sugars and calories. Province Brands beers contain around 6.5mg and around 40 Calories according to Beverage Daily.

Words To Drink By (Ontario, Canada) – “We went to the master brewers and very naively said, hey we want to brew a beer from cannabis!”  Province Brands

Two Loose Cannons Make Nice (Abingdon, UK/ Baltimore, MD) – UK-based Loose Cannon Brewery has established trademark agreement with Baltimore’s Heavy Seas Beer who are moving towards selling their beers in the UK and Europe.

Heavy Seas’ flagship brand, Loose Cannon IPA, was potentially going to create confusion with the Loose Cannon Brewery. But the trademark ownership and use issue has now been fully resolved with Loose Cannon taking over the ownership of the UK trade mark and subsequently granting a license for use to Heavy Seas Beer in the UK.

Heavy Seas has granted a mirror license to the Loose Cannon Brewery for the use of the Trademark in the EU.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Hood River, OR) – We recently hit up something new and interesting from Ballast Point Brewing. Light-bodied and semi-dry, Ballast Point Brut IPA is a 7% ABV limited release that marks the brewery’s first foray into an emerging style with (at least from our perspective) increasingly ill-defined parameters.
