In its ongoing effort to scale organic and Regenerative Organic Certified® ingredients, Patagonia Provisions, the food and beverage business of outdoor apparel company Patagonia, has been working with like-minded American craft brewers to make for a better world.

And on August 15,  eleven of the nation’s best craft breweries will be showcasing a special Kernza Lager made with the world-changing grain, paired with responsibly sourced snacks and seafood, at a one-day event they’re calling “Seafood & Suds.”

Available at select brewery taprooms for $15 while supplies last, the “Seafood & Suds” special includes a pint of Kernza Lager, a box of Patagonia Provisions Organic Rosemary Garlic Crackers, and Patagonia Provisions Roasted Garlic Spanish White Anchovies.

“Our tinned fish tastes best when paired with a crisp lager,” said Paul Lightfoot, General Manager of Patagonia Provisions. “We created this Seafood and Suds one-day special as a way for Kernza Lager drinkers to discover our delicious, responsibly-sourced tinned fish and regenerative wheat crackers.”

Many think that beers made with Kernza can be a big part of brewing’s future, a more sustainable and earth-friendly future.

Perennial crops like Kernza require minimal tilling, increase soil organic matter, improve soil health and water-holding capacity, and help fight the climate crisis.

Whereas most grains are planted and harvested annually, Kernza stays in the ground year after year, developing water and nutrient transmitting roots that can up to 12 feet long. Perennial crops like Kernza are beneficial to the environment; they protect soil from erosion and improve soil structure. They increase ecosystem nutrient retention, carbon sequestration, and can contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation.

“Patagonia is thrilled to partner with these value-aligned breweries, all driven by delicious flavors, high quality ingredients, and responsible business and brewing practices,” Lightfoot added. “Craft beer drinkers want great tasting beers made with clean ingredients that are better for the planet.”
