NEWBIES – NEW RELEASES TO LOOK OUT FOR – APRIL 25, 2013
So many beers, So little time…With so many craft breweries releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets… So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!
The Sun Rises in the East (Easton, PA) – Weyerbacher Brewing Company is continuing its Brewer’s Select Series with White Sun Wit, a 4.3% ABV Belgian-Style Wit that should be ideal for keeping the effects of global warming at bay. Weyerbacher, which increased production this year, is shipping White Sun Wit to wholesalers and it should be available from April through July.
Summer in the City (Washington, DC) – In the Nation’s Capital, DC Brau will be releasing El Hefe Speaks (EHS) to local markets. Currently available on draft, this traditionally brewed German-style Hefeweizen will also now be available in 12 oz cans. Hopped with German Tettnang hops and tagged at 5.3% ABV, this summer brew promises to be extremely drinkable. Advice from DC Brau: “Please keep this unfiltered wheat beer cold to avoid any re-fermentation in the can!”
Unity Begets Beer (Winston-Salem, NC) – On May 9, Winston-Salem, NC will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the date on which the two towns eloped. Foothills Brewing will help celebrate the occasion by releasing Hundred Foot Centennial Ale, a cream ale dry-hopped with Centennial hops. Hundred Foot will be available at centennial events, at the Foothills’ downtown Winston-Salem pub, and in limited-release 22 oz bottles.
Our Better Angels (Los Angeles, CA) – LA’s largest craft brewery is joining in the effort to clean and maintain the iconic Santa Monica Bay. Heal the Bay IPA is a joint undertaking between Golden Road Brewing and Heal The Bay, a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization based in Santa Monica, CA. Proceeds from sales of the beer will go to restoring the bay’s watershed. Brewed with Citra, Centennial, and some New Zealand hops, Heal The Bay is described as bright and citrusy. If you want to do your part to heal the bay, look for 16 oz cans at Whole Foods Markets and other select retailers starting in mid-June.
