Newbies – New Releases That You Want to Look Out For – October 10, 2013
So many beer, So little time…With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets….So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – your guide to great new craft beer releases!

Flying Dog Caught Holding Secret Stash (Frederick, MD) – It’s not what you’re thinking this time. Flying Dog’s Stash is actually the name of their fall seasonal brewed each year to celebrate Maryland’s agricultural roots. The recipe changes every year and this year’s Secret Stash Harvest Ale is a drinkable Belgian-style ale brewed with locally grown wheat and hops.

Zaphod Beeblebrox’s Beer Comes to a Galaxy Near You (Bellaire, MI) – Hitchhike if you have to but remember your towel and get your hands on a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Fans of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Series will remember that as “the best drink in existence,” invented by Zaphod himself. Short’s Brewing Company’s spacey new release is dedicated to “maintaining a bitter domination of the galaxy and beyond.” Those are strong words from this Michigan-based brewery, but this is a big beer that can hold its own in the craft beer universe. Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster is an 8.4% ABV Double Belgian IPA brewed exclusively with galaxy hops (get it?), and it’s set to be bottled next week – so you know what to do.
Bison Says No to Fall Traditions! (Berkeley, CA) – This time of year finds the beer market overrun with pumpkin and Oktoberfest-style beers, and Bison Brewing has chosen to separate itself from the pack with its latest fall seasonal. Gingerbread Ale is their spiced holiday porter brewed with ginger, nutmeg, and a touch of cinnamon. This year’s release, which features brand-new packaging with a snazzy new label,is now available in 12 oz. 4-packs and on draft.
Black Raven Pales (Redmond, WA) – Washington State’s Black Raven Brewing Company has just released something special and available only at their compound. Raven de Garde Pale Ale is a Northern France/Belgian inspired strong pale hybrid that has gone through a six-month secondary fermentation with the “wild” yeast strain brettanomyces lambicus and dry-hopped for good measure.

Grand Teton Coming Home (Victor, ID) – Look for the Grand Teton Brewing Company’s special holiday release to be rolling out in a couple of weeks. The 2013 Coming Home Holiday Ale is big, bold, and brewed in the Belgian Dubbel tradition. “Coming Home” will be “coming out” on November 1st on draft and in 750 mL bottles.
