Newbies – New Releases That You Want to Look Out For – November 14, 2013

summitrebellionstoutRebellion at the Summit! (Saint Paul, MN) – Summit Brewing has a new addition to their Summit Union Series and we’re pretty damn excited about it. Rebellion Stout is their 8.5% ABV upstart that’s single-hopped with a new UK dwarf hop named after a Celtic queen who led the fight against the Romans. Dark and feisty, this stout’s release marks the second entry in Summit’s Union series, where new and more obscure ingredients are combined with traditional techniques to produce limited-availability beers.

SweetWater Buckles Up (Atlanta, GA) – SweetWater Brewery has just unveiled their latest addition to their always interesting Catch & Release lineup that should be hitting the streets the second week of November. Whiplash White IPA is playfully described as “what happens when a 500-year-old Belgian style ale gets rear-ended by a truckload of American hops” and we think that pretty much nails it. Well balanced at 6.2% ABV and 55 IBUs, Whiplash is brewed with a heavy dose of wheat and caramel malts and dry-hopped with Ahtanum, Centennial, and Simcoe for good measure.

Brekenridge Porter Gassed! (Denver, CO) – This week, Breckenridge Brewery introduces an audacious new Vanilla Porter that they’ve excitingly named Nitro Vanilla Porter. Infused with a combination of nitrogen and CO2 gases, this beer delivers a mellow, velvety version of Breckenridge Brewery’s classic Vanilla Porter. Nitro Vanilla Porter is the largest nitrogenated beer release in the brewery’s history, and they are unleashing it on the world this week assuming the DEA doesn’t get involved.

ValhallaLabelElysian Gets Seasonal (Seattle, WA) – The Elysian Brewing Company has two interestingly named beers returning in November. Bifrost Winter Ale is their bold and invigorating cold weather seasonal with citrus and earthy hop flavors all balanced by a smooth malt finish. Valhalla Red IPA is their shout-out to the Gods and a hoppy red IPA brewed with just a pinch of roasted barley, bittered with Sorachi Ace, and finished with rare Citra hops. Both beers are available now on draft, as well as in 22 oz. bombers and six packs – so you know what to do.

Upslope Both Naughty and Nice (Boulder, CO) – Hey the Upslope Brewing Company is throwing a holiday party today at their Lee Hill tap room and celebrating the release of Upslope Christmas Ale, an enormous 8.2% ABV holiday brew that will have you spinning naughty and nice at the same time. They’ll also be selling four packs of this 16 oz. can so you can bring the holidays home early.

Do You Do Shrooms? (Hershey, PA)  Tröegs Brewery has just released an experimental, small batch beer made with mushrooms grown in Pennsylvania, so now you can drink beer and do shrooms at the same time. A part of their very cool Scratch Beer Series, Mushroom Ale is a limited-edition specialty release that’s brewed with an exotic blend of champignon, maitake, shiitake, and portabella mushrooms.

Five-Mile-Hop-Harvest-IPAIpswich Going Local (Ipswich, MA) – The Ipswich Ale Brewery has long been an advocate of localism and they are proving their commitment once again with their newest release. 5 Mile Hop Harvest IPA’s mission is to use at least 50% Massachusetts ingredients while always having at least one ingredient from within 5 miles of their city, and they’ve done an awesome job. Available now in 22 oz. bottles as well as on draft and in cask, Harvest IPA is wet-hopped with Cascade hops grown at Yard 44 in Ipswich. The barley was grown in Essex, and malted in Hadley, Massachusetts.
