So many beers, So little time… A prominent mid-Atlantic brewery is delving into “uncharted waters” with their newest release. We’ll have more on that – plus we’ve some interesting new releases from Flying Dog and Worthy Brewing that you’ll want to track down.

HBC-431 (Frederick, MD) – That’s the name of the hop that was used in Flying Dog’s newest Single Hop IPA Series release. HBC-431 Imperial IPA is a 10% ABV ale that was brewed with an experimental hop from a cutting-edge supplier that’s so new that it doesn’t even have a “name” name.

A Dark Muse (Bend, OR) – Worthy Brewing has a new release that’s, well, “worthy” and you might want to track it down. Back for a second vintage, Dark Muse is a massive 10.1% ABV Imperial Stout with a rich body, a roasty character, and a touch of bitterness that rounds things out. The very limited special release is available now in 22 oz. bottles and on draft.

Siren Song (Baltimore, MD) – With temps across much of the country still well below freezing, it’s time for what we at ACB call “fire beers.” Fire beers are rich, strong, dark ales and stouts – fit for drinking around open-air fires on cold winter nights – and Heavy Seas newest Uncharted Waters Series release is one. Siren Noire is their Bourbon Barrel-Aged 9.5% ABV Imperial Chocolate Stout that’s also perfect for cellaring, assuming you can hang on to it that long.

First East Coast NITRO Can (Utica, NY) – That’s what Saranac is claiming. According to them, the 7% ABV Saranac Disruption Brown Ale is the first East Coast craft beer released as a nitrogenated can beer. “Disruption is made for nitro because the nitro enhances the creaminess of the malts,” said Rich Michaels, Saranac’s Quality and Innovation Manager. “Immediately nitro’s difference is visible in the cascading pour. Nitro has smaller bubbles and forms denser foam, which delivers a thicker mouth feel and creamy finish.”

An Ominous Reprisal (Seattle, WA) – The funny thing about omens is that they often come back to haunt you and Elysian’s newest is no exception. Elysian’s Omen is a 7.9% ABV Belgian-style Raspberry Stout that made its first appearance as the November offering in 2012’s 12 Beers of the Apocalypse Series and was returned because it’s just that good. Look for Omen March 1st in 22 oz. bottles with a stylized Death’s Head moth on the label and on draft at all Elysian pubs. It will also be available throughout the brewery’s distribution network.
