So many craft beers, So little time……With so many craft breweries, releasing so many beers, we thought it might help to provide a weekly update on all the new beers that are hitting the streets …..So welcome to this week’s edition of Newbies – Your guide to great new craft beer releases!
The Commons Shares the Love (Portland, OR) – The Commons Brewery will be releasing the third beer from the Beetje Series TODAY at 5:00 pm at the brewery. Brotherly Love is their Belgian Dark Strong Ale, Little Brother, aged in second-use Bourbon barrels with Northwest grown sour cherries and Ecuadorian Cacao nibs. The Beetje Series is a celebration of The Commons Brewery’s nano roots. First brewed in 2010 on a one-barrel system in Mike Wright’s backyard garage, these small batch beers pay homage to the brewery’s humble beginnings.
Where Belgium Meets Colorado (Denver, CO) – Wynkoop Brewing Company is now self distributing its fourth hand-canned craft beer. Belgorado Belgian-Style India Pale Ale is a small-batch hybrid that combines the wonders of two of the world’s best beer cultures. Belgorado’s main ingredient is Belgian-style malted barley from Colorado Malting Company, a small, family-owned farm and specialty maltster in Alamosa, CO. The beer won a 2011 Great American Beer Festival bronze medal in the festival’s Experimental Beer category and it’s currently available in the Denver area.
Road Trip! (Redmond, WA) – Black Raven Brewing Company will be holding an open house this weekend and we can’t think of a better reason for a Road Trip! They will be celebrating by re-releasing their 2011 Black Raven Old Birdbrain. Their award-winning barley wine will be on tap and for sale to-go in 12 ounce bottles.
More Newbies Scheduled for Take-Off at Airways (Kent, WA) – Airways Brewing Company has three Newbies scheduled for take-off in March. Oatmeal PSA is a pale session ale brewed with flake oats that drinks reasonably at 5% ABV. Pre-Flight Pilsner is their new, pre-prohibition style pilsner that sports a spicy hop presence, attributed to the Hallertauer and Saaz hops used to brew it. Also scheduled for take-off is their Third Anniversary Belgian Dark Strong. This 9.9% ABV monster is smooth, complex, and filled with rich, dark fruit flavors. Brewed with Hallertauer hops, this limited-edition beer will soon be available in 22-ounce bottles.
Brewed with 4-Leaf Clovers! (Fredrick, MD) – Flying Dog Brewery has just released its newest seasonal Lucky SOB Irish Red Ale. This is the first year that their “Irish Red” is being released in six-packs and the 2013 version is a little stronger this year. (Last year’s release came in at 5% ABV – this year, it’s 5.5 %.)
Bishop’s Barrel Rolls Out (Houston, TX) – Saint Arnold Brewing Company has just released Bishop’s Barrel No. 2, the second offering in their small batch, barrel-aged series of beers. Bishop’s Barrel No. 2 is an Old Ale aged for more than a year in oak Chardonnay barrels with cherries added in the brewery’s barrel room. Each batch of Bishop’s Barrel is distinguished by the number on the neck label. Since fewer than 1,200 cases of this special release are available, its distribution will be limited to Texas and Louisiana only.
