Newbies – 5 Special Craft Beers You Need To Check Out

|February 22nd, 2016|

So many beers- So little time… Winter is waning, and now we’re beginning to see some early springtime offerings …We’ve also some great new releases from Firestone Walker and The Bruery that you may need to chase down as well.

Schlafly Farmhouse IPABrewing Farmed Out (St Louis MO) – Schlafly Beer has just released a new addition to their seasonally rotating IPA Series. Traditionally French, yet boldly American, Schlafly Farmhouse IPA is a 7.2% India Pale Ale that’s assertively hopped and brewed using a unique French yeast strain.

Flying Dog Caught Packing Heat! (Frederick, MD) – Disregarding warnings from concerned public officials, Flying Dog is now packing heat. First in their brand new Heat Series is Flying Dog’s Oaked Chipotle Ale, a 6.2 % melding of chipotle peppers and toasted oak, tethered to an unapologetic roasted malt backbone.

Luponic 2Breaking The Rules With Every Release (Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker is introducing a new series to showcase experimental hops and riff freely in the brewhouse without the constraints of a more formal recipe. Luponic Distortion is not a single beer, but rather an ongoing series of beers that will evolve and revolve approximately every 90 days. It all kicks off in March with Revolution No. 001. The base beer will remain the same with each new release, but the hop blend will change every time, so that no two releases will be exactly alike. As many as nine different hops will be included in each release, with up to six used in the dry hopping alone. However, with each release, the brewing team is going to turn up the volume on a different experimental, which will be dry hopped in greater quantity than the others.

Horchata Homage (Placentia, CA) – The Bruery has a new spring seasonal, that takes its lead from horchata,  a traditional, sweet, milky drink that originated in Spain and Latin America and has become quite popular in Southern California. The Bruery’s Or Xata is a 7.2% Blonde Ale, brewed with a heavy dosing of rice, cinnamon and fresh vanilla beans – along with lactose for a little extra creamy character.

Kona-Aina-Brown-AleCoastal Crafted (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) – Kona Brewing is returning their popular small-batch Makana Series which supports and honors the island’s Sustainable Coastlines and treats customers to one-of-a-kind craft beers available nowhere else but in Hawaii. Kicking off the series is Kona’s Aina Brown Ale an earthy 6% ABV brew that gets its distinct flavor from the kalo that’s added to the mash.
