Mikkeller Takes Its Festival To Tokyo

In addition to crafting great beer, Danish craft brewery Mikkeller, has a certain international swagger. We like many of the moves that they make… like taking their world-renowned beer celebration on the road to Tokyo later this year.

Here’s the deal…

For years the Copenhagen-based craft brewer has been throwing one of the world’s best invitational beer festival. And like the Firestone Walker Invitational out in California, and London’s Beavertown Extravaganza it draws an international cast of brewing’s most exciting players.

In fact the Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen has gotten so famous that it’s been anointed its own acronym (MBCC) and having attended this legendary outing, we’ve gotta admit they’ve earned it.

For the last couple of years, the festival has also taken place in Boston, but this year – on September 23rd and 24th – the festival will be moving to Tokyo for the first time and will be held at a baseball field in the middle of that Asian metropolis!

And clearly Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, the founder and CEO of Mikkeller, is jazzed about taking his festival in a Far Eastern direction and with craft beer kicking it in Tokyo his timing’s perfect…

“We really think that Mikkeller Beer Celebration is the best beer festival in the world, and we want to bring it to other parts of the world and share it with new people. At the same time Tokyo is one of my favorite cities in the world, and I can’t wait to show it to all of my friends from the beer world.”

40 breweries from Asia, Europe and USA will participate in September’s festival, and as always they’ll be bring their rarest and most serious stash. And at the Mikkeller Beer Celebration in Tokyo it’s the head brewers from the world’s best breweries who will be pouring their best.

Mikkeller already runs a bar in Tokyo so they’re hardly strangers to the region…but a beer celebration of this scale and quality that is something new.

The Mikkeller Beer Celebration Tokyo (MBCT) yep it already has its own acronym, will take place on the 23rd & 24th of September at the interestingly named Rubber-ball Baseball Grounds.

And the Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen will take place in Copenhagen for the 7th year in a row on May 12 & 13
