If you’d have told us that a member of Metallica would be joining Greg Koch at a polite Sunday night book discussion in Chicago, we would have called bullshit on you. But that’s what’s happening this weekend and the world may never be the same…

Last month it was announced that Stone’s executive chairman and co-founder Greg Koch would be a guest at Theater on the Lake’s monthly Authors on the Lake interview series in Chicago.

Described as “an evening of conversation and drinks with notable authors as they share stories, take questions and chat about their books,” these Sunday night affairs couldn’t be more sedate. But that could change due to a last minute addition to Greg Koch’s scheduled appearance this weekend.stone, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Joins Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch At Book Event In Chicago

Koch will be in town to discuss (no doubt over beer) The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.: Liquid Lore, Epic Recipes, and Unabashed Arrogance which came out more than seven years ago and is still only available in hardcover (and kindle) so it’s definitely a book with staying power.

And as anyone who’s met Koch knows, the guy’s an engaging conversationalist, so even a Sunday night book gathering is going to be fun.

But with the last minute addition of Metallica drummer, Lars Ulrich who will join Koch between Metallica concerts in Louisville and Indianapolis, this thing just got amped up to 11.

And Ulrich’s last minute appearance, shouldn’t come as a total surprise…

In January Metallica and Arrogant Consortia (a Stone Brewing imprint) generated considerable buzz when they announced the national and international release of Enter Night Pilsner, a beer that the brewery and the band planned together.

And in a mini-documentary that Stone produced about the project, that’s almost as much fun as the band on stage, it’s pretty clear that Metallica’s drummer and Stone’s co-founder have developed a very real friendship….So Sunday night could be a blast.

According to the Chicago Tribune Koch and Ulrich will be interviewed at 7 pm by Chef Cleetus Friedman at Theater on the Lake (2401 N. Lake Shore Drive).

Friedman will evidently “interview Koch for about 30 minutes, then Ulrich will join for the next 30 minutes.”

Tickets cost $40 and that includes three appetizers, beer pairings and a meet and greet with Koch and Ulrich.

And did we mention there will be beer?
