Fall is ON and American craft brewers are addressing the season with an intriguing roster of new beers you’re gonna want to have around as things cool down.
Masterful (Hershey, PA) – Tröegs Independent Brewing is returning a perennial fall favorite and it’s now available in gracious 16oz cans. Made with more than 3,000 pounds of Pennsylvania longneck pumpkins (a hearty heirloom variety similar to butternut squash) grown locally for the brewery Tröegs Master of Pumpkins is a 7.5% ABV subtly spiced Pumpkin Ale with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla as well as a backbone of caramel malt.
“To us, a pumpkin beer should have pumpkin,” says brewmaster John Trogner. “We’re a Pennsylvania brewery, and pumpkins grow really well here, so using Pennsylvania pumpkins just makes sense. Tröegs lovers definitely appreciate the connection to local agriculture.”
A Monster (Munster, IN) – 3 Floyds Brewing has a whole family of Double IPAs they craft throughout the year and their Oct/Nov release is not for the faint of heart.

Brewed with their friends in the band Pig Destroyer, 3 Floyds Permanent Funeral is a massive soul-destroying 10.5% ABV India pale Ale that was crafted using “tons of hops and hop extract,” a combination that adds both heft and drinkability.
Moon Shot (New Glarus, WI) – New Glarus Brewing is renowned for its internationally lauded Spotted Cow Cream Ale. But they also offer a terrific year-round that’s equally sessionable and just as interesting. A bright bold blend of five hops that flirt obligingly with the smooth malty backside. New Glarus Moon Man is a classic 5% ABV American Pale Ale that should never be overlooked.
