Their first US brewery in more than 60 years, Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House hopes to not only replicate the success of its St James’s Gate Guinness Brewery in Dublin, which welcomes 1.5 million tourists each year…They also intend to build a groundbreaking barrel-aging program to America.

Based just 10 miles south of downtown Baltimore. Guinness’ newly opened $80m operation features three separate brewhouses– a small two barrel pilot brewery, a 10 barrel brewhouse dedicated to experimental beer, and a custom-designed 100 hectoliter brew hub. Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House also features has a vast a barrel-lined aging room where Guinness will explore the promise of wood-aged dry stouts in America.

And keeping true that promise, the Diageo-owned global brewery just debuted the first of what is expected be a long line of US barrel-aged releases…

Interestingly enough its first release in America is a transatlantic hybrid featuring the base beer, Guinness Antwerpen Stout,which was brewed at Guinness St James Gate in Dublin and nurtured in whiskey barrels at their newly opened facility in Maryland.

And for Sean Brennan, the Senior Brewer at the Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House, this debut marks the first of what he hopes will be many…

“We’ve already started to think about what we’ll be experimenting with next, but we couldn’t be more pleased with our first go at using barrels from our friends at Bulleit. This beer is something special, and one to be sipped slow and savored.”

Guinness Stout Aged in Aged in Bulleit Bourbon Barrels is currently on shelves as a limited release and on tap at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House through the end of the year – so you know what to do.
