And they are capping off having reached so many of their sustainability goals with a new limited release that we’re excited about as well.

Here’s the deal…

Yesterday was Earth Day and Firestone Walker Brewing took the opportunity to  celebrate its “Brewing for Tomorrow” initiative, which is the brewery’s part in making the planet a little bit better.

“Brewing for Tomorrow is about being good stewards of our natural resources,” said CEO Nick Firestone. “It’s a mindset that drives every decision we make. From solar and water to carbon and now sourcing local grains, we’re committed to crafting beer with a lighter footprint and a deeper connection to our home.”

As part of its Brewing for Tomorrow platform, Firestone Walker continues to invest in practical, high-impact solutions that make brewing more sustainable.

Recent upgrades include:

  • CO₂ Recovery: A newly installed system offsets more than 4.4 million pounds of carbon emissions each year
  • Solar Power: On-site solar now provides more than 60% of the brewery’s energy needs
  • Water Reuse: A custom-built water reuse system recycles over 500,000 gallons of water annually
  • Local Agriculture: More than 20 million pounds of spent grain are repurposed as feed for nearby cattle ranches

These improvements are part of a long-term effort to brew responsibly while staying true to the brewery’s Paso Robles brewery’s California roots.

And  yes, there’s also a beer…

To celebrate Firestone Walker efforts and Earth Day 2025, the brewery has released Firestone Sunglider —a limited-edition Helles Lager brewed with Atlas barley grown by local farmer Bob Work. Originally from Morocco and adapted to California’s Mediterranean climate centuries ago, Atlas barley brings a clean, refined character to the beer while supporting regenerative agriculture just miles from the brewery.

“Sunglider is brewed for warm days, golden hours, and anyone who cares where their beer comes from,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “It’s a beautiful lager with a story that starts in the fields of Paso Robles and ends in your glass.”

Sunglider Helles Lager now available for a limited time on draft at all Firestone Walker locations with 4-packs 16oz cans available in May.
