And given the vast amounts of drug money said to be covertly flooding the Mexican government already…we’d be surprised if a new beer inspired by the now imprisoned drug lord ‘El Chapo’ didn’t get approved.

Here’s the deal…

The new beer bearing the nickname and likeness of the jailed Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera was developed by a brand owned by the Mexican drug kingpin’s daughter Alejandrina Guzmán Salazar according to News 4 Los Angeles.

“For most of the 20th century South American cocaine flowed through the Caribbean,” according to Wall Street Journal.  “But when the U.S. clamped down on those routes in the 1990s, pathways through Central America and Mexico became the alternative.”

And that led to the rise of the rise of the Sinaloa Cartel which was headed by Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera better known as “El Chapo” (‘shorty’ in English referring to his 5 ft 6 in stature).

El Chapo was a god to many in the country where his drug money bought him the support of many…And even after his US conviction and imprisonment in 2019 his legend looms large south of the border.

And now’s there’s a beer, brewed in his honor produced by La Chingonería, a Mexico City-based brewery. And it’s ready for “prime time” pending approval from the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property.

Alejandrina Guzmán Salazar officially introduced the beer as part of her fashion and lifestyle line Chapo 701 at the Intermoda 2019 trade show that was held in July 2019 in Guadalajara.

Brewed with malt, rice and honey, and absolutely no illicit additives, El Chapo 701 beer is a 4% ABV Mexican Lager that’s pairs perfectly with Baha beach resorts and lines of cocaine.

Once approved, the new drug lord beer will sell for 70.10 pesos, or about $3.72 a bottle, which is considerably more affordable than many of El Chapo’s previous products.

“I think the timing’s perfect for an El Chapo beer” said Tom Bobak, Editor American Craft Beer…”The drug kingpin was known for his expansive distribution network, Mexican lagers couldn’t be hotter, and the pairing opportunities are obvious.”
