As we approach the winter holiday season festive treats take on new meaning, especially treats made with serious craft beer.
This one comes our way from Chico, California-based Sierra Nevada Brewing and it uses the brewery’s Narwhal Imperial Stout, an aggressive yet refined malt-forward masterpiece from a brewery more commonly known for its pale ales and IPAs.
It’s a terrific stout with rich notes of espresso and bakers cocoa, and an essential addition to this recipe. And given that you’ll have some stout left over, it will also the perfect companion while you’re cooking.
Sierra Nevada Narwhal Stout Gooey Brownies
1/4 cup Narwhal Imperial Stout
18-ounce boxed brownie mix
2 large eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat an 8”x8” baking pan with non-stick spray.
Add brownie mix, Narwhal, eggs, and vegetable oil to a large bowl and mix together until just combined. Pour and spread into the prepared pan, topping with chocolate chunks.
Bake according to package instructions, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean, about 35 minutes. Let cool completely in the pan.
Serve with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream and lots of chocolate sauce and a snifter of Narwhal Imperial Stout.
