Festive foods take on new meaning when made with serious craft beer. And who doesn’t like crab cakes?
This tasty recipe comes our way from Justin Golinski Culinary Director at Founders Brewing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. And it uses the brewery’s popular All Day IPA, a bestselling 4.7% ABV Session India Pale Ale that drinks like the big boys.

“The citrus notes in the All Day IPA pair beautifully with the mild flavor of the crab. Couple that with the Matcha-Lime Mayo and you have an appetizer or even a quick dinner option ready to go.”
And given that you’ll have some Founders All Day IPA left over, it will be the perfect companion while you’re in the kitchen cooking.
So let’s do this!
All Day IPA Crab Cakes
Ingredients
- 1 lb cooked, cleaned crab meat
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup All Day IPA
- 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
- Small handful of chopped green onion
- 2 teaspoons of crushed red pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2-4 tablespoons butter for sautéing
Directions
Step 1
Heat 2-4 tablespoons butter on medium heat in sauté pan.
Step 2
Combine ingredients and form into 4-5 patties
Step 3
Cook for approximately 3 1/2 minutes on each side
Step 4
Serve with Matcha-Lime Mayo (below), lemon wedges, tartar sauce or remoulade.
Matcha-Lime Mayo
- 1 cup mayo
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tablespoon Matcha powder ( a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves, traditionally consumed in East Asia)
- 1 teaspoon ginger
(Combine all ingredients. Serve with All Day IPA Crab Cakes)
