Cooking With Beer – Best Super Bowl LIX Recipes
For almost five years we’ve been featuring our favorite “Cooking with Beer” recipes every weekend. It’s become one of our most popular features and they’re fun to do
And with many of us already in Super Bowl mode, we thought it might be time to showcase some party-friendly “blasts from the past,” that will pair brilliantly with the big game, whether the Chiefs or the Eagles prevail.
SPICY BACON & CHEDDAR CHEESE MUFFINS
This sure-to-please recipe, which comes our way from the Beer Institute, a national trade organization that advocates for big and small brewers, was created for them by Chef Laurent Aubel.
And although it calls for any lager, we used Scrag Mountain Pils, a 4.8% ABV Czech-Style Pilsner from Lawson’s Finest Liquids.
Bell’s Amber Ale Bratwurst Hoagies
This football-ready recipe uses a darker beer, which can encompass a whole spectrum of styles, including Amber Ales, Schwarzbier, Bock, Doppelbock, and Munich Dunkel lagers
Basically you’re looking to braise your bratwurst in a beer with a modest bitterness, and the nuanced sweetness that comes with these more malt-forward, beer styles.
We used Bell’s Amber Ale, a 5.8% year-round from the renowned Midwest brewery with sweet toasty caramel notes from its carefully selected malts. Capped off by the moderate bitterness we were looking for, it’s incredibly versatile beer for cooking , and very tasty on its own.
AleSmith Nut Brown Ale Mac & Cheese
We’ve published several beer-infused Mac & Cheese recipes in the past using everything from Hazy IPAs, to straightforward Lagers. But what makes this recipe so unique is its use of a true English-Style Brown Ale, and San Diego-based AleSmith Brewing makes one of the best in the nation.
A tribute to the British classic, AleSmith Nut Brown is an award-winning 5% ABV Brown Ale with a malty character and rich biscuit, mild cocoa and earthy hops notes that really add something special to this definitive dish.
Sierra Nevada IPA Mini-Burgers
This scrumptious recipe comes our way from Sierra Nevada Brewing, but it originated at Beer Belly, an Instagram site that knows what it’s doing.
And it uses Sierra Nevada’s bestselling Hazy Little Thing IPA, an aggressively dry-hopped, less filtered, 6.7% ABV India Pale Ale, with a juicy citrus ambience, a modest bitterness, and smooth finish.
The beer, which is widely available, really adds something special to these mini-burger bites, (you can thank us later).
