When we first introduced our “Cooking with Beer” series we had no idea that it would become so popular.

And now as we celebrate summer’s passing it might be time to revisit some our favorite “blasts from the past” with your Labor Day gatherings in mind.

SIERRA NEVADA FIERY TORPEDO IPA STEAK TACOS

This tasty recipe uses Sierra Nevada’s bestselling Torpedo Extra IPA, an aggressive yet balanced 7.2% ABV India Pale Ale with a complex citrus, pine, and herbal character of whole-cone hops.

And the beer (which is widely available) really adds something special to the fiery habanero and jalapeño mix used to marinate the steak.

This dish rocks in the kitchen but on the backyard grill, even better

FOUNDERS SOLID GOLD BEER BATTERED ONION RINGS

This tasty beer battered onion rings recipe comes from Founders Brewing’s Culinary Director, Justin Golinski who notes that the dish represents all four important food groups (beer, onions, oil, batter) so there’s no reason to feel guilt.

And the beer used is Founders Solid Gold a 4.4% ABV Premium Lager which the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based brewery introduced in 2018, and remains one of their most popular year-round offerings today.

GRILLED PORK SHOULDER WITH SPICY IPA MARINADE

This tasty recipe comes our way from Chico, California-based Sierra Nevada Brewing and it uses the brewery’s Hazy Little Thing IPA, a 6.7% ABV Hazy India Pale Ale with a fruit-forward flavor that has spawned an entire family of variations.

This dish is tropical, spicy-sweet, and ridiculously easy to make and Sierra Nevada’s best-selling IPA really supercharges the marinade behind this sweet-and-spicy grilled pork shoulder.

SPICY BACON & CHEDDAR CHEESE MUFFINS

Festive foods take on new meaning when made with serious beer. And who doesn’t like fresh from the oven bacon and cheddar cheese muffins, especially when made with the perfect lager.

This sure-to-please recipe, which comes our way from the Beer Institute, a national trade organization that advocates for big and small brewers, was created for them by Chef Laurent Aubel.

And although it calls for any lager, we used Scrag Mountain Pils, a 4.8% ABV Czech-Style Pilsner from Lawson’s Finest Liquid.
