Canadian Brewer Files Patent For Marijuana Beer

, Canadian Brewer Files Patent For Marijuana BeerThe whole marijuana beer thing is accelerating…And now a Canadian company has filed a technology patent for the production of beer brewed from cannabis, using a specific method that sees the grains traditionally used to make beer completely replaced with marijuana.

Toronto-based Province Brands has filed the provisional patent for the “world’s first beers brewed from the cannabis plant,” further stoking interest from the drinks industry in the burgeoning cannabis industry since Constellation bought a 10% stake in Canadian marijuana company Canopy Growth Corp for £141 million with plans to make cannabis-infused drinks.

Dooma Wendschuh, CEO of Province Brands, (and also a former Assassin’s Creed video game developer) positions his company as “technology driven and on the bleeding edge of cannabinoid science.”

And according to the Drinks Business that his startup has experienced a surge in funding following Constellation’s entrance into the industry.

“We started our company in 2016 when it was not known whether alcohol free beverages which intoxicate using cannabis or its phytocannabinoids would ever be legalized in Canada. The government, just a few months ago, made it clear they’d allow [these types of products], and I’d suspect that’s what made Constellation Brands step up.”

Canada has been leading the charge in the legal cannabis movement. It was the first country in the world to legalize medical marijuana back in 2001, however this didn’t extent to edibles and beverages.

But things changed in  October, 2017 when the Canadian Government said that they would be looking to cannabis-fueled , likely in 2019, causing a surge of investment in companies such as Province Brands and the heightening their importance in the eyes  of pot media organizations like High Times., Canadian Brewer Files Patent For Marijuana Beer

While breweries like Lagunitas have produced beers using marijuana extract they’ve not been psychoactive.

Province Brands argues on the other hand, that it are first organization to produce beers brewed entirely from the cannabis plant, describing its products as “alcohol-free, yet highly intoxicating, and with a dose-response curve similar to that of alcohol.”
