Given today’s more competitive craft beer climate, American breweries are making moves to better survive. And lately much of the action seems to be coming out of Colorado.
On April 2nd Longmont, CO-based Left Hand Brewing, a legend out west, announced that it was joining forces with Denver’s Dry Dock Brewing.
Left Hand Brewing is one of the original pioneers in craft brewing with a 30+ years of history.
Famous for its Nitro series, Left Hand launched America’s original Nitro bottle with its flagship Milk Stout Nitro and the first production run of U.S.- made Nitro widget cans.
Left Hand is one of the most honored and recognized breweries in Colorado with 31 Great American Beer Festival medals,11 World Beer Cup awards and nine European Beer Star awards. In 2022, Left Hand was proud to be awarded Brewery of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival in the 15,001-100,000 barrels category.
Dry Dock Brewing is a legend as well…
Founded in 2005, Dry Dock Brewing Company was the first craft brewery in Aurora, Colorado. And what began as a 900-square-foot microbrewery next to a homebrew supply shop evolved into one of Colorado’s most decorated breweries earning 28 Great American Beer Festival medals and eight World Beer Cup awards. In 2009, Dry Dock was proud to be awarded Small Brewery of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival
According to the Boulder-based Brewers Association, Left Hand Brewing was the third largest Colorado craft brewer by production in 2023 and Dry Dock Brewing was the eighth largest.
As part of the transaction, Dry Dock’s two owners will acquire equity in Indian Peaks Brewing Company, the parent company of Left Hand Brewing Company and now Dry Dock Brewing Company. Dry Dock known for beers like Apricot Blonde and Hopricot IPA will immediately move all brewing production and packaging to Left Hand’s Longmont facility and will continue to operate its Aurora taproom.
“This partnership is the realization of the vision we shared during our recent Wefunder raise,” said Eric Wallace, Founder and CEO of Left Hand Brewing. “To survive, we believe distributing craft berries must scale up. We’re building an independent craft beer platform rooted in community, collaboration, and ownership. This partnership with Dry Dock is the first real step in bringing that to life.”
