With National Dog Day nearing (yep It’s a thing), breweries in the US as well as in the UK are launching projects that help rescue dogs as well as promote their beers.

Last week Los Angeles-based Golden Road Brewing announced that it had entered into a program with a local dog rescue organization where it’s newest IPA would be delivered to homes by adoptable dogs.

And now Scotland-headquartered BrewDog has partnered with comedian Ricky Gervais on a limited-edition beer, with all profits going to dog rescue charities.

This dog-friendly compact began when British comedian Ricky Gervais, who’s also a very decent writer, producer, director and apparently beer lover, tweeted about his love of BrewDog’s Punk IPA as well as his love of dogs.

But it was this recent tweet that featured a video where Gervais urged companies to donate to charity rather than shell out for cheesy celebrity endorsements that led to a round of secret talks between the now global craft brewer and the popular personality who co-created and acted in the British television series The Office (2001–2003).

For a limited time BrewDog will be selling special cans of its bestselling Punk IPA, renamed Street Dog for the promotion, that feature adoption pictures of dogs in need of a loving home on its cans…

“At BrewDog we are always looking for ways to use our business to do good,” BrewDog co-Founder James Watt said…

“When Ricky tweeted us with a genuine endorsement for Punk IPA, we wanted to use our platform to donate to causes he’s passionate about.

“We then decided to take it one step further and not only donate the profits from our Street Dog cans, but give our pawsome four legged friends over at Dogs on the Streets and All Dogs Matter, space on our cans to help them find forever homes.”

100% of all the profits generated from the sales of BrewDog’s Street Dog will be split evenly between the two charities, and doggone it, that’s a good thing…
