Pumpkin beers aren’t for everyone, but I love ’em. And Punkin Ale is one of the beers that makes me look forward to fall. Clocking in at 7% ABV, its perfect in the slightly cooler, crisper nights of September. Hints of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg and a slight sweetness from brown sugar give it a rich mouthfeel that pairs well with football and baseball games, relaxing after raking leaves, or just about anything fall-related. Beer Geek Factoid Bonus: For those who don’t know, Punkin Ale gets its name from the annual Punkin Chunkin contest held in Delaware, near Dogfish Head’s headquarters. The event– hurling pumpkins for distance using medieval trebuchets and air cannons–is as off-centered as Dogfish Head.
