Beer Run – New Holiday Ales, Black IPA’s And Russian Imperial Stouts

|December 16th, 2017|

We love this time of year. The nights get more wintry and the beers more robust…And with the nation’s temperatures dropping radically, we’ve five buzz-worthy drinking directions that you might want to chase down this weekend.

Back IN Black (Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker’s newest Leo v. Ursus Chronology release looks to the brewery’s s dearly departed Wookey Jack imperial black IPA, (which was discontinued last year) for inspiration. While exhibiting DNA from its Wookey Jack ancestry, Wookus is Firestone Walker’s next-generation Imperial Black IPA with amplified hop aromatics and a touch of rebellious dankness.

Not Outta Compton (Newport, RI) – Rogue Ales is kicking off the new year with a big January release that is dedicated to the Oregon Coast, home to Rogue’s  headquarters. West Coast to the bone and abundantly fueled on Citra, Mosaic and Comet hops, Rogue Straight Outta Newport is a profoundly bold 8.7% ABV Double IPA that’s bursting with aromas of grapefruit, tangerine and orange.

Barrel-Aged Righteousness (Escondido, CA) – Stone Brewing is ending the year with a barrel-aged small-batch release we can’t wait to get our hands on. Aged to the edge in rye whiskey barrels & bourbon barrels, 2016 Stygian Descent: Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA is a 12% ABV blizzard of chocolate, oak, dried fruit and citrus notes that could change your life.

Pugnacious (Redlands, CA) – Hangar 24 Craft Brewery is toasting winter’s return with a dangerous barrel-aged award-winner that’s its own legend on the West Coast. Barrel Roll No. 3 – Pugachev’s Cobra is a MASSIVE 15% ABV barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout that’s not to be taken lightly.

Hooliganism (Morgantown, NC) Catawba Brewing is returning a popular winter seasonal just in time for the holidays. Intensely robust and full-bodied, Hooligan Scotch Ale is a massive 8% ABV wintertime ale, rich with layers of caramel, toffee, chocolate and dark fruit tones.
