University Of Montana Gets Craftier (Missoula, MT) – Joining a growing roster of state universities with branded craft beers University of Montana now has its own officially licensed beer…and they’re just the latest to introduce one..
What was once considered a highly unusual platform for institutional branding is becoming increasingly common as a growing number of academic institutions look to broaden their profiles (and generate much needed funds) with the help of university branded craft beer.
The University of Montana has partnered with Missoula’s Big Sky Brewing to craft Griz Montana a 5% ABV Bohemian-style Pilsner which features the university’s grizzly bear mascot and was designed by UM graphic artist Neal Wieger.
Unfortunately all these university branded beers play it safe and stick with lager…and we look forward to one of these institutions taking on something a little craftier like a serious IPA (University of San Diego we’re looking at you!).

Georgia’s Statewide ‘Happy Hour’ (Atlanta, GA) – Georgia’s craft beer professionals and its many fans will be celebrating in the streets tomorrow when a new liquor law goes goes into effect that will finally allow the state’s craft beer producers to catch up with much of the nation.
Signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal last May, Senate Bill 85 into law, allows beer and liquor manufacturers (read: craft breweries) to sell their products directly to consumers
The new law, (which met with serious opposition by wholesale lobby) and goes into effect on September 1st will allow brewery fans to enjoy beer by the pint when the visit, as well as the ability purchase up to a case a beer ’to-go.’
