A Canadian brewery got into some hot water recently for offering 12 participants a year’s supply of free beer for tattooing the company’s logo on their body… Weve that, “Words to Drink By” and more.

Tattoo-for-Beer Promotion Falls Flat

Steel & Oak Brewery, a British Columbia craft brewer decided that it wanted to celebrate its 10th anniversary, a promotion that was eventually blocked by provincial regulatory officials.

“The original plans would have seen the 12 registered patrons show up at Steel & Oak on May 26 to be tattooed by Vancouver-based artist Holly Nickerson, choosing one of several different designs incorporating the logo,” according to CTV News Vancouver. “Participants would have had to pay for the tattoo themselves, at an estimated cost of $100 to $150. Steel & Oak said those individuals would then have been entitled to 156 glasses of beer, an average of three per week, whenever they wanted.”

But after the province’s Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch caught wind of the promotion, the Vancouver-area craft brewer was forced to call an end to the promotion via social media…

“”Unfortunately, we are not legally able to move forward with the contest as is, and are going to re-think how we can encourage you to make a forever decision on your body without using the power of beer. “It turns out that giving beer away for a tattoo is something that we’re not technically allowed to do.”

Anheuser-Busch Plans $7M Brewery Upgrade In California

Anheuser-Busch has announced  a $7 million investment in its Fairfield brewery, which unlike other recent investments in its US breweries appears to be more of a structural upgrade and less production related.

The Fairfield, California brewery brews over 20 of Anheuser-Busch’s brands and boasts a 99 percent recycling rate. And this $7 million investment will go toward facility structural repairs (roofing, new lighting as well as some equipment overhauls).

Over the past 5 years, Anheuser-Busch has invested nearly $2 billion in its facilities across the country, with expenditures adding unique production capabilities and  improved efficiencies. Across the United States, Anheuser-Busch operates more than 120 facilities, including flagship and regional craft breweries and agricultural facilities across 24 states.
