Did you ever wonder why you never actually see people drinking beer in a beer commercial?…We’ve that, “Words to Drink By” and more..
The Real Reason People Don’t Drink In Beer Commercials
Did you ever notice that beer commercials never actually show anyone drinking that beer? We have and we’d always assumed there must be some federal regulation prohibiting that. But according to Chowhound we were wrong…
“The government actually has no hard-and-fast rules about showing anyone consuming alcohol in commercials. It actually comes down to the networks themselves, all of which generally look down on alcohol consumption on camera.”
Beer Overtakes Wine in France
Call it a ‘generational change” if you want, but the fact that beer is currently outselling wine in France, a country renowned for its wine and its wine consumption, is big news.
According to data from the country’s national agricultural products office, sales of lagers and ales for at-home consumption in France have overtaken wine for the first time. Bottom line, wine sales have fallen by 18% in the last 14 years. And beer sales rose 16% over the same period.
Tom Bott, co-founder of London-based brewery Signature Brew, told The Sun is growth is a “testament to how beer has developed over the past ten years. Plus beer is cheap — you can sit down and drink it with friends and it brings them together.”

US Legislators Champion the CHEERS Act
If you’re in the beer biz or the hospitality industry you’re probably familiar with the CHEERS Act, a bill that is short for the Creating Hospitality Economic Enhancement for Restaurants and Servers (CHEERS) Act.
Its passage will impacts brewery taprooms, brewpubs, bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, and other similar establishments, by offering tax relief to businesses investing in draft beer systems in the form of changes to an existing code.
The legislation was first introduced over a year ago but stalled in last year’s session. It was introduced again in both houses of Congress last week. Sponsors of the CHEERS Act include four Representatives and two Senators, three of whom are Republicans and three of whom are Democrats, so it does have bipartisan support, a rarity in today’s polarized political climate.
One of the bill’s sponsors,. “The CHEERS Act offers a bipartisan solution to help small brewers in Washington and across the country invest in energy-efficient draft systems, reduce waste and create more jobs,” said Suzan DelBene (D), who represents Washington’s 1st congressional district. “By expanding these tax incentives, this legislation supports both economic recovery and environmental responsibility. This will deliver real benefits to small businesses in Washington.”
And it has wide industry support…
“With craft brewers producing 30% of all draft beer sold, restaurants, bars and retail partners play a vital role in the brewing ecosystem,” said Bart Watson, president and CEO of the Brewers Association. “A strong on-premise market and quality draught service are essential to the success of small and independent craft brewers. We wholeheartedly support the introduction of the CHEERS Act and thank Congressmen LaHood and Horsford for championing the legislation>’
American Craft Beer is 100% behind this bill’s passage, but more legislators need to come onboard and you should contact your congressional representatives HERE and ask that they support the CHEERS act. The beer biz needs your support!
