The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s some more of what’s been happening in the beer world while you were celebrating the Super Bowl…

Lost Dog Found Thanks To Photo On Beer Can (Bradenton, FL) – 3 years ago Monica Mathis’ dog went missing in Iowa. Hazel was an important member of the family and they never gave up hope of finding her according to Fox 13…What they didn’t do was keep the dog’s microchip info updated…So when Hazel ended up in Manatee County Animal Shelter down in Florida, they couldn’t contact Mathis who was now living in Minnesota.

Fast Forward to Motorworks Brewery’s dog-friendly beer label campaign. In an effort to find homeless dogs permanent homes, the Bradenton, Florida-based brewery created Adoptable Dog Cruiser Kölsch 4-PACKs… featuring the brewery’s bestselling 4.8% ABV German Kölsch-style Ale with four different  homeless dog photos on them …each one virtually screaming ADOPT ME.

Motorworks’ rescue dog promotion generated a firestorm of social media buzz and newspaper coverage and pictures of the beer cans with the cute little doggy faces prominently plastered on them went national. Amazingly one of the dogs on the label was Mathis’ dog Hazel who had now been missing for almost three years and made its way to the Gulf Coast of Florida. Hazel will be shipped home to Mathis for free, thanks to the nonprofit Friends of Manatee County Animal ServicesWTVT reported.

Words To Drink By (Minnesota) – “I never thought I’d see her again…She was very good at, you know, getting loose.” Monica Mathis to WWSB

College Students Bail On Beer (USA) – OneClass is a leading online academic site that provides an extensive library of study guides, lecture notes and video tutorials created by top students. They’re also a great resource for tapping into what’s trending with students…and one thing that’s not trending now is beer.

In the alcohol preference survey, OneClass collected data from nearly 600 students at 49 different colleges throughout North America and found that liquor has surpassed beer as the preferred alcohol beverage on campuses.

Male students were more likely prefer beer than female students, but female students (and the survey respondents skewed heavily female, so there’s that) were twice as likely to favor hard seltzer as male students. Of those who chose beer as their preferred drink, the top ten brands in order were: Corona, Bud Light, Coors, Busch, Natural Light, Michelob, Miller, Budweiser, Hamm’s, and Keystone.
