Old is new again for one 150-year-old beer brand. We’ve that, a tragic exploding beer keg incident, and more.

Historic Beer Cans Given Modern Twist

When one thinks Coors, more times than not, its Molson Coor’s flagship beer, Coors Light that comes to mind. That’s not surprising, after all it’s the second bestselling beer in America, and has been for a while.

But there’s another Coors brand with a rich western heritage, Coors Banquet Beer, which has been brewed for almost 150 years. It’s aligned itself with a rich western vibe and having a terrific year.

Coors Banquet spent 2023 celebrating the brewery’s 150th year and became a top volume gainer in all of beer along the way.

And Coors Banquet is looking to extend this success in 2024 with a legacy ad campaign, three historic cans that they are calling the “Legacy Collection,” and fresh merchandise in collaboration with long-standing partner Brixton.

The look and feel of The Legacy Collection is inspired by the packaging designs of the past but with a modern twist. Each of the three commemorative designs recognizes a specific decade in Coors Banquet’s rich history, including designs lifted from the 1880s, 1940s, and 1990s.

Originally brewed for the Colorado gold and silver miners to enjoy after a hard day’s work, Coors Banquet has been a part of history and pop culture for over a century. The iconic stubby bottle was even smuggled across the country before it became available east of the Mississippi in 1981.

Exploding Beer Keg Ends In Tragedy For Two

Two friends have died after a beer keg exploded while they were setting it up during a party in Brazil.

Valdeir dos Santos Ferreira, 38, and Julio Cesar Venancio, 39, were installing the beer keg in the backyard of a home in Sao Joao de Meriti in the state of Rio de Janeiro on Saturday reports the Daily Mail.

Although it is exactly unknown what caused the explosion, the Drinks Business reported that a local beer vendor speculated  “a valve failure or the barrel’s CO2 regulator could have failed and caused the explosion.”

The trader, Rodrigo Kaminski, added that the keg “may not even have had a safety valve” and he claimed that images he had seen showed it was an old keg, which should have been scrapped, but admitted that “only forensics will be able to confirm what actually happened”.

Unfortunately this is not the first “death by beer Keg” reported in Brazil. In 2021 another a Brazilian man, Gilson do Nascimento, was killed in September while trying to fix a keg of beer he had ordered for a family birthday party.

The 43-year-old was reported to have been attempting to fix the rented beer keg with only foam coming out, according to Rio Grande Do Sul who first reported the story.

The beer keg exploded and killed Nascimento as he was preparing to celebrate his birthday at his home in the town of Campo Bom, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to Metro “Joao Luis Giovanelli, president of the Association of Microbreweries, said the brewery and delivery company involved are being questioned to establish whether there was a failure in the equipment supplied.
