Anheuser-Busch Makes More Money With Less Beer
Anheuser-Busch, home to bestselling beer brands such as Budweiser, Michelob Ultra Bud light is selling less beer and making more money as it increased prices and operated more efficiently.
In February the mega-brewer shared it fourth-quarter results with investors and shared that its underlying earnings rose 3% to $14.84 billion. At the same time, organic volume growth fell by 1.9% in the fourth quarter, which was offset by a 5.4% boost from price.
But all was not great for the world’s biggest brewer…
North America volumes fell by 1.1%, as the company leaned on Michelob Ultra and Busch Light to offset the lingering weakness from Bud Light sales, which lost its once unassailable #1 position to Modelo Especial.
According to MarketWatch, the fastest growth was in Europe, Middle East and Africa, where sales grew by 3.8% thanks to some growth in South Africa, which helped offset the 12.7% drop in the Asia Pacific region due to lower beer sales in China.
