Beer News: Beer Sales Surge In Russia / New NHL Team Gets New Beer
Salt Lake City’s Epic Brewing is celebrating its new professional hockey team with something fans will want to “check out.” Weve that, “Words to Drink By” and more.
Beer Sales Surge In Russia
Its no secret that beer sales are slowing in the US, not a lot, but enough to worry some big brewers. But that’s not the case in Russia according to the Moscow Times.
According to global marketing research firm NielsenIQ, “beer sales in Russia rose 8.7% year-on-year between January and July, a stark contrast to the modest 1.6% growth seen in the same period last year.”
So why is beer surging in a country renowned for its vodka consumption? Well one reason is that its war in Ukraine has led to “higher import duties on goods from countries deemed “unfriendly” by Russia, Kommersant noted.
Beer prices, on the other hand, have remained somewhat stable.
Yegor Guselnikov, vice president of Russia’s Baltika Breweries, suggested that the crackdown on the illegal beer market has also played a role in the growth of sales, the Kommersant wrote.

New NHL Team Gets New Beer
Epic Brewing celebrated the National Hockey League’s newest addition, the rather obviously named Utah Hockey Club, and its first match against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on October 4th with an aggressive new beer at their Salt Lake City brewery.
Epic’s (more cleverly named) Hip Check Ice Lager is 7.5% ABV Imperial Lager with the kind of high alcohol heft one doesn’t normally see in sport beers that tend to keep the alcohol level more sessionable. But then again this is hockey, right?
