A rouge alligator which was spotted in Chicago’s Humboldt Park Lagoon understandably fascinated the “Windy City. So much so that it became known as “Chance the Snapper” before the alligator with unknown origins, was successfully captured by Crocodilian Specialist Services and relocated to St Augustine, Florida.
And to immortalize the alligator incident that became national news, Chicago’s Revolution Brewing has released a commemorative beer.
Available now on tap at Revolution’s Brewpub, Humboldt Gator is a pineapple and coconut Witbier that “speaks to Chance’s chaotic tropical spirit.”

LA Zoo Sloth Helps Brew Beer
Charlie, the resident sloth at Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens has helped fashion a beer that was eventually brewed by L.A based brewpub chain, Simmzy’s Pub according to the Drinks Business.
And given that Charlie’s a sloth, and that those mammals are famous for taking things slow, it was a painstaking process sorting through the various fruits and flower options before selecting the final ingredients to be used in Slothen Bräu, a German-style Kölsch lager.
The sloth curated Kölsch will be on pour at Brew at the L.A Zoo, a beer and music festival held at the zoo which is due to take place next month. The “Beer Meets Animals” beerganza will also feature zoo-friendly offerings from the likes of Golden Road Brewing, MacLeod Ale Brewing Co. and Santa Monica Brew Works.
LA isn’t the first zoo to use its animals as brewing consultants. And if the animal curated brews prove profitable, it won’t be the last.
In 2017 Riverbanks Zoo in South Carolina brought in Patrick, a 394-pound silverback gorilla, to help with the making of a limited-edition beer.
Tasked with selecting the beer’s ingrediants, the fastidious primate went with a well-balanced blend of caramel malt, cherries, Pilsen malt and wheat for what eventually became Patrick’s Pick, a zoo collaboration with Legal Remedy Brewing.
